Shaping Silk House of the Rising Phoenix book 2 by Bree McKennedyAnother twisted tale from the Houses of the Rising Phoenix series. Even though they are in a series book 2 is a completely different experience but that would be expected based on the twisted world Bree has painted for us. A Silk is the direct opposite of a Steel therefore the book must be a direct opposite as well.
Just before their 18th birthday young women are taken from their beds and forced to decide as to what their life will become Steel or Silk. The decision is permanent. Caroline Andrews has known for most of her life that she would choose to be a Silk and live her fairy tale life. Once she has been taken to the Hen House she is starting her life. Shortly after her new life starts the men come to the house to check out perspective wives. Caroline comes face to face with the man she has loved since they were kids Morgan Mathers.
We met Morgan in Breaking Steel when we were following Paris’ story in her life as a Steel. We all know that didn’t end well and we knew in book 1 that Morgan is married. He is a strong solider that is hard, cruel and has dark, twisted desires. He has a need to dominate and feed his beast with the women he is with. In book 2 we see a side of Morgan that I didn’t expect. He was soft, sweet, loving and the prince charming Caroline dreamed about.
To be honest I had to blink a couple of times to get my head around this man that seems to be living 2 different lives. We know how it ended with Paris in book 1 so to say I was eager to get through this installment is an understatement. I had a hard time seeing Morgan as anything other than the monster he was portrayed to be.
This book is twisted, secretive, demented but loving, sweet and caring all at the same time. Caroline gets to see what her husband really is and her world shatters. Each page there is a new twist or secret being revealed. I found this to be an interesting read that had me turning the pages eagerly. There is too much going on in this book to be covered in a review. I highly recommend this book.

The first book was incredible but the feelings in this one were over the top. The Pain and strength of one woman is beyond belief. She endures so much and still comes out on top! A Great series, I can not wait for the next one!
