Like Father Like Daughter Flesh Blood Trilogy Volume 1 Christina Kaye Books Reviews
Morgan's first entry in this series gets things going with a bang. Libby is a relatable character in a dire situation, creating instant sympathy from the reader, which is great--especially when she and those around begin questioning her sanity. We're on Libby's side even when the going gets tough, which is a sign of solid storytelling and development. A few parts in the middle of the story lag in pace--as another reviewer has pointed out, things get a bit repetitious. But the characters and plot are so interesting, I couldn't put it down at some points. The mystery and thrills certainly deliver, and I'll be reading the next installment.
I read this book in one day because I simply had to see what Libby was going to do next. She is almost the poster child for what not to do if you wake up to find your husband dead beside you. I think it was that take on the story line that had me so compelled, because you simply didn't know what she was going to do next. I don't know how many times I shook my head and thought, "Oh Libby, don't do that" and she'd do it anyway. I found it to be a fast paced nice read. I'll definitely be reading more by this author.
I really do not understand any of the other customer reviews.
Don't waste your time! I really wish I hadn't. I think the author got a little confused as to what she was writing. This starts out with a very graphic description of a gunshot wound in the head. That along with some very crude language along the way is the only hint that this is supposed to be a serious thriller. However, that is where it ends.
The victim's wife was employed as a paralegal & supposed to be knowledgeable in criminal procedures. Yet she continues to do one stupid move after the next. She never seemed to be too upset that her husband was killed. Her husband was just murdered lying next to her and she's noticing way too much about each & every officer & details that were going on around her. That is just not normal. Even describing her in the crime scene cleanup… That was just a joke! The entire story was very unrealistic! It played out more like a cozy humorous mystery/suspense. When faced with the possibility of life in prison she was snickering to herself about the overweight cop. This is a completely unrealistic, far-fetched story. The characters are simple & shallow. Honestly not one bit of this rang true. I think it would have been great as a cozy mystery if things were changed out a little bit....there was enough silliness in it to be more humorous than anything else. Don't even get me started on the ending. Where did that even come from? It's like it was a last-minute decision to throw that in there.
I really don't like to leave unkind reviews but I'm more mad at myself for not having stopped reading when she said the police were "doing what appeared to be important police things".
All that said I actually enjoyed the writer's style for a humorous cozy mystery. If she would stick to that style entirely throughout her stories I would certainly read another of her books. However, don't expect a serious thriller in this one.
Her writing is very good. It keeps you wanting to keep reading. I'm looking forward to more.
Just read this book, which is the first in suspense trilogy written by author Christina Morgan. I picked these up at our local bookstore and I'm glad I did. The writing is great and the story keeps you on your toes through the whole book. I read it in 3 days. There were lots of twist and turns and the ending had two shocking twists. I didn't expect that. Yes, I agree with some reviewers who say you keep wanting to scream at the main character and tell her not to do something, but that is what i liked about this book. The main character isn't perfect. She makes mistakes, but she's not a professional investigator, so it makes sense. She's just a normal girl trying to prove her own innocence and find her husband's killer. Morgan's writing style is professional and easy to read She ads wit and humor to her stories which make me smile while reading, even something dark like this book. All in all, this is a well-written book full of twists and fun to read. Well worth the time and money.
Excellent
"Like Father Like Daughter" keeps you hanging on every page. I would suggest if you are reading before bed, go to bed early because you will not want to put this book down! From the beginning, questions and thoughts of what happened and will happen will race through your mind and each turn of the page will add to the suspense. Enjoy this one!
